Biography
Randy B is a soulful urban jazz guitarist whose journey is defined by resilience, passion, and an unshakable connection to music. From his early beginnings in Houston playing with the TSU Tornados to his formative years in Detroit—where he earned the nickname “George Benson” among his peers—Randy’s sound has always been rooted in tradition while reaching toward something greater.
Throughout his career, he has shared moments and stages with renowned artists such as George Benson, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, and Norman Brown, experiences that helped shape his signature blend of smooth jazz, R&B, and soul. As the leader of The Collaboration Band, Randy spent decades honing his craft while balancing life as a professional electrician—never letting go of his musical calling.
In 2006, Randy’s life changed forever following a tragic car accident that claimed the life of his wife, Joanne, and left him with a broken neck. Faced with unimaginable loss, he found the strength to rebuild through his dedication to his children and his music. That perseverance now lives at the core of every note he plays.
Randy’s debut single, “Joy and More Joy,” produced by two-time Grammy winner Paul Brown marks a powerful new chapter. Recorded in Los Angeles at Funky Joint Studio using Paul Brown’s Gibson L-5, the track showcases Randy’s expressive guitar style alongside top-tier musicians, delivering a sound that is both polished and deeply personal. The song serves as a heartfelt tribute to Joanne, whose memory continues to inspire him—symbolized by the Stratocaster adorned with her image.
With a sound rooted in life experience and a spirit driven by purpose, Randy B stands as an artist whose music tells a story of love, loss, and triumph. As he steps into this next phase of his career, his vision remains clear: to share his gift with the world, honor his journey, and leave a lasting mark on contemporary jazz.
